Build a youth football practice plan
Drag drills onto a timed sheet until the clock fills, print the one-page plan, and run the session from your phone with the built-in timer. It is free and needs no account.
Steps
- 1
Set the length of your practice
Most youth football practices run 60 to 90 minutes. The clock bar at the top reacts as you add periods, so you can see what is left rather than doing the arithmetic.
- 2
Filter the drill library to your constraints
All 90 drills are filterable by the age of your players, how many minutes you have, how many bodies turned up, how much space you have and what equipment you own. A youth coach usually arrives with constraints rather than a category, so the rail subtracts rather than browses.
- 3
Drag drills onto the sheet
Each drill carries its own minutes, so the clock updates as you build. Reorder by dragging. A typical youth plan is a warm-up, two or three skill periods, a team period and a game to finish.
- 4
Print the sheet
The plan prints to one page with the timings down the side, which is the version that goes on a clipboard.
- 5
Run it from your phone
The plan opens on a phone with a clock and a whistle, so you are not holding paper and a stopwatch at the same time.
What it costs
Free, and no account is needed to build or print a plan. The AI Practice Wizard, which writes a whole practice from six questions about your team, gives 1 free build and is then part of Coach and Coach Pro.
Things worth knowing
- Age brackets run from 5 and 6 year olds upward, and the drill filters use them directly, so a plan for 7 and 8 year olds will not surface a drill written for 12s.
- Every drill states the number of players it needs. Filtering on that first is the fastest way to build a plan the night before when you know who is coming.
- Equipment filters include no-equipment drills, which is the practical case for a coach on a shared field.
- The plan is a list of drills with times, so you can swap one drill without rebuilding the session.
Questions
Is there a free tool to build a youth football practice plan?
Yes. The practice planner is free, needs no account, and includes the whole drill library. You build the plan by dragging drills onto a timed sheet and print it to one page.
How long should a youth football practice be?
60 to 90 minutes is the usual range for youth flag football, and shorter at 5 and 6 years old. The clock bar is there so the plan you build matches the time you actually have, which is the thing most written plans get wrong.
What should a first practice look like?
A warm-up, one or two skill drills aimed at the thing your team cannot do yet, a short team period and a game. The planner's filters let you pick drills by the problem rather than by the category, which is the faster route to that shape.
