Print a play wristband that fits

Measure your band's clear window, lay your plays into panels sized to it, print at 100 percent with no page scaling, then cut on the dashed lines and slide each card in.

Steps

  1. 1

Open the Wristband tab on your team

If you already own bands, go straight to measuring one. If you do not, the wizard asks your players' age, your budget and whether you want team colours, and recommends a band to buy.

  2. 2

    Get the window size

Measure the clear window with a ruler, or paste the band's Amazon link, or find it in the catalogue. Every band in the list shows its window dimensions and how many cards slide in behind it. The window size is the only measurement that matters: the insert is printed to it, not to a generic template.

  3. 3

    Choose a card design

Pictures with call numbers, pictures with play names, or a plain list of calls. Pick how many plays sit in each window, and the preview tells you whether they still read at wrist distance. More plays per panel means smaller diagrams, and the preview is the check on that.

  4. 4

    Place your plays

Your playbook is already on the band. Drag one play onto another to swap them, drop a play from your library into an empty box, and set the number the calls start from.

  5. 5

    Print at 100 percent

Check the band at actual size first. Choose your copies, which is usually one per coach, one per quarterback and a spare. Then print with scaling set to 100 percent or None. This is the step that goes wrong: a printer set to Fit to Page shrinks the sheet by a few percent and the insert no longer fits the window.

  6. 6

    Cut and load

Cut on the dashed lines, which are drawn to the window size rather than to the card edge, and slide each card into the band.

What it costs

Designing a band, measuring it and laying your plays into the windows is free on every plan. Generating the printable sheet is Coach Pro only. Free and Coach can design and preview a band but cannot print it.

Things worth knowing

  • Print scaling set to anything other than 100 percent is the single most common reason an insert does not fit.
  • The dashed cut lines are sized to the band's window, not to the paper, so cut on them rather than on the card edge.
  • Card stock holds up better than copier paper for a season. Laminating is optional and adds enough thickness that a tight window may not accept it.
  • A band's window dimensions are a property of the band, so changing your plays does not change the size of the printout.

Questions

How many plays fit on a football wristband?

It depends on the band's window, which is why the step above is to measure it. A common 3-panel youth band takes 4 to 6 plays per panel as diagrams, or 10 to 12 as a numbered list. The preview shows whether your choice still reads at arm's length before you print.

Can I make a wristband for free?

You can design, measure and lay out a band for free on any plan, including the free one. The printable export is a Coach Pro feature. Coach Pro is 100 playbook exports a month plus the wristband export and the coaches sheet.

What size are football wristband inserts?

There is no single standard. Window sizes differ by manufacturer, which is why a generic template often does not fit. Measure the clear window on the band you own, or paste its product link, and the insert is generated to that size.
