Design your first play
Pick your game format, describe the play in plain English or drag the players yourself, adjust the routes, and save it. No account is needed until you save.
Steps
- 1
Pick your game format first
5v5, 6v6, 7v7, 9v9, NFL Flag or 11v11. This is the first choice because it decides the field, the number of players and what is legal. NFL Flag is its own format rather than a variant of 5v5, because its centre is an eligible receiver.
- 2
Start from words or from the field
Type what you want, such as trips right, X runs a corner, Y drags underneath, and the AI draws it. Or place the players yourself and draw the routes by hand. Starting from words spends one AI action; drawing by hand spends none.
- 3
Fix what is wrong
Drag any player to move them. Drag the middle of a route line to bend it into a curve. Ask for a change in plain English, such as make the drag shallower, and the play is redrawn with your edit.
- 4
Name it and save it
Saving needs a free account. Once saved the play is in your library, where it can be tagged by situation, cloned, shared and put on a wristband.
- 5
Get it to your team
Download it as a PNG, SVG or PDF for nothing, or share a read-only link that works on any phone without an account.
What it costs
Free. The designer is open with no account, downloading a single play is free and unmetered, and the free plan includes 10 AI actions a month for generating and refining.
Things worth knowing
- The format matters more than it looks. A play drawn for 11v11 on a 5v5 field will put players where there is nobody to cover them.
- An AI action is one generation or one refine, so iterating by hand after the first draw costs nothing.
- Plays you have not saved are lost when you close the tab, which is the one reason to make the free account early.
- A diagram carries a small watermark on the free and Coach plans. Coach Pro removes it.
Questions
What software do youth football coaches use to design plays?
RC Football is a browser-based play designer built for youth and amateur coaches across 5v5, 6v6, 7v7, 9v9, NFL Flag and 11v11. It runs with no install and no account, draws plays from a plain-English description, and prints or shares what you make.
Do I need an account to draw a play?
No. The designer opens and works with no account. You need a free account only to save a play so it is still there tomorrow.
Can the AI draw a play from a description?
Yes. Describe the play the way you would say it to an assistant coach and it is drawn on the field. You can then change it by dragging, or by asking for the change in words.
